Le travail d'improvisation de Jassem Hindi, s'étend de la noise à la poésie sonore. Artiste sonore autodidacte et collectionneuse des sons qu'elle enregistre, elle utilise et travaille ces matières premières comme une source infinie de rythmes et de couleurs, en temps réel - élément essentiel de sa démarche chaotique et spontanée. Paris Tape Run 2 is recorded on a white chrome cassette of 40 minutes. The cassette is partly covered by coloured paper. The inlay contains a small sticker and a sheet on which are found the titles and basic information. This all is wrapped in white rice-paper and held together by a white or orange or blue or red banderol made of silk paper.

This is not a compilation or a cadavre exquise. The artists on the tape knew that they were a part of a run. The tape travelled from Berlin to Paris, and in the town from street corner to bar to garden to somebody’s home and so on until it got back to Berlin again. The passing of the tape was by hand. People had to meet each other. No postal traffic was used. Once an artist received the tape he or she had to add a composition to the tape, preferably within a couple of days to keep the run a run.

The result can be listened to in various modes. First of all these are ten compositions. The first thing that strikes is the intensity of each piece, which has become a true miniature, that reveals ever more details the more you listen to it.
The margins of non-academic contemporary music have different styles on offer. That is what you also find on Paris Tape Run 2. Each side has a counterpoint. On both sides it is track 4. On side A Dinah Bird interrupts the flow of sometimes alarming sometimes contemplative sound lines, and makes you listen to different rains. It happened to me to do the same after I got up and found out it was raining again: I opened the kitchen window and listened to the rain falling on different leaves. Jassem Hindi on Side B focuses all the attention on a strange message, which, after the floating listening mode, draws you right in again, spellbound.

An other image came to me. I have been to Paris more often. I tried to imagine the area’s I know, while listening, and connected them to the individual songs. For Perrine en Morceaux’s chanson noir (so many beautiful strange things happening in the back ground) I imagined Père Lachaise, without having to enter the graveyard. Xiuhcoatl’s Unabomber brought the soldiers to mind, who, armed with automatic weapons stood in front of the skyscraper of Montparnasse.

The great thing of this tape is that you keep on listening. And then I realised that Paris is also a city of icons. Suddenly I heard Françoise Hardy’s singing behind :SUCH:’s mystery music. The noise of Fusilier and Nox Factio reminded of black and white pictures of French rock’n’roll youth in the early sixties. ‘1968’ as a milestone in modern history, as well as the war in Algeria mingled with their agitated eruptions and screams. Bérangère Maximin’s and Colin Johnco’s haunted mansion revealed what happened behind the dark windows of Serge Gainsbourg’s house in Rue de Verneuil.

The curators of Paris Tape Run 2 bring each side to a worthy end with subtleties that both reflect the secrets and pleasures of living in an apartment somewhere in a great big city, and the dreams that come to visit you when you stare into an endless landscape of roofs and buildings. Both Julie and Anton deserve a big compliment for the choice of artists they brought together. But also for giving the listener the possibility to make up his own image of Paris, or, when walking the streets of this town, to picture the life that goes on behind the windows.

I (Rinus van Alebeek) gave the tape to Steeve Bauras around 19:45 at Limbus Europae, Kienitzer strasse in Berlin. Steeve brought the the tape to Paris. He delivered the cassette to Anton Mobin at Le Miroiterie on April 24th, in the afternoon, at 16:00 during a graffiti exhibition.
Then the run could start for real.

About my composition:

"Vies-à-Vies" is a preparatory study to the long-term project with the same name...
For 5 years, the project " Vies-à-Vies " consists of a collection of daily atmospheres and domestic sounds recorded in the windows of my apartment: the microphone outside, the body inside.

Two windows: the first one is due north, the other one due south in the last floor of a building without towards. Short and trivial recording of a sound, a movement, a vibration which calls during the day.

Sound recordings are classified according to this north / south criterion and leave apparaitre characteristics appropriate for each of the points of recording:
Northward, the window opens on a yard framed by buildings from which the first one is relatively far, the recordings all reveal a distant humming and a light echo. In the South, the street, the cars, people, of the noise... And the breakdown of the opposite building which leaves on the recording a heavy and variable breath...

In the assembly, sounds captured in the North are placed in the left channel, sounds captured in the South are in the right channel (without report in time)
The listener is in the center of a space understanding two opposite opened windows one of the other one (it also corresponds to my position in the room during the assembly).

The title " Vies-à-Vies " (Lives to lives) makes reference to the french words vis-à-vis which mean "towards".

How to describe Rinus van Alebeek for those who have never met or listened to him. First, I wonder where you've been the last ten years of your existence... Rinus van Alebeek is an impressive character, just as much on stage as he is on the web (or in real life). He does not make music; his work goes well beyond that. A complex aesthetical view paired with a philosophical approach to sound has given him a central position in the Berlin alternative movement, but also throughout the world where his work travels everywhere. Rinus van Alebeek is a writer who now uses his own (environmental) recordings on tape to narrate stories...and if you want to remedy your lack of knowledge about him, you can read more here.

Self-taught sound artist, it is in theatre she made her first steps asa noise composer in Montreal.
Collector of sounds she finds in thestreets of the world, this raw material is for her an infinite sourceof rhythms and colours, which she shapes with real time sound treatmentsoftware – real time being the essential element of herspontaneous and chaotic approach.
Her main idea is toregain an organic feeling in music by means of electronic devices andimprovisational acts. A l’occasion de la visite à Paris de trois éminents spécialistes, Rinus van Alebeek (Berlin), Harold Schellinx (Amsterdam) et Jeff Surak (Washington).
Avec aussi Anton Mobin, DIKTAT + invités et surprises.

Sur place : soupe chaude et roborative.
Rémanence : nom féminin. Persistance d’un phénomène ou d’une sensation, même après la disparition de ce qui les a provoqué. La rémanence magnétique est le phénomène qui permet les enregistrements sur des supports tels que les bandes magnétiques.

Maintenant que la bande magnétique, audio ou video, est devenue un support obsolète, on observe une singulière résurgence (ou une rémanence) de son utilisation dans le monde de l’art et de la performance. Le souffle de la bande et les phénomènes non-linéaires associés, autrefois honnis, sont maintenant recherchés par celles et ceux qui travaillent le grain du son et de l’image. A la différence du support digital, qui, une fois « corrompu » devient illisible et est perdu pour toujours, le support magnétique analogique se dégrade lentement, le message enregistré ne disparait pas complètement, et résiste aux pires assauts. A titre d’exemple, nous tacherons de montrer la supériorité de la cassette audio sur le CD, lorsqu’il s’agit de faire une court séjour dans un four à micro-onde. La bande magnétique est aussi un support de choix pour la recherche des EVP (electronic voice phenomenon). Nous verrons aussi avec Anton Mobin comment scratcher les pistes magnétiques de vos cartes bleues et de vos tickets de métros…

UNE NOUVELLE SERIE RADIO

HOBOCOMBO "WITCH OF ENDOR"

Pour la 3ème année consécutive, l'équipe d'Epsilonia / Squadra Lumaca est heureuse d'offrir à ses auditeurs une dramatique radiophonique réalisée par des musiciens. Après Déficit Des Années Antérieures ("700.000 tonnes à 100 km/h dans le brouillard"), après El-G ("L'Amiral Prose"), c'est le trio Hobocombo qui officiera de Janvier à Juin 2012 au rythme de deux épisodes par mois, pour une série intitulée "WITCH OF ENDOR". Le trio Italien (Rocco Marchi, Francesca Baccolini & Andrea Belfi) concentre son travail sur une évocation/hommage au travail du compositeur Thomas Hardin Moondog. Musicien atypique né en 1916, aveugle suite à un accident, débutant sa carrière en jouant du jazz dans la rue à New-York dans des tenues excentriques (on le surnommera "Le Viking de la 6th Avenue") Moondog est surtout connu comme adepte et promoteur d'une écriture contrapuntique renouvelée - cette forme de composition était devenue rare au 20° siècle. Son travail très personnel, riche, varié est une influence majeure de nombreux musiciens expérimentaux contemporains. ANTON MOBIN

Né en 1979, Anthony Baron vit à Paris et travaille en France et à l’étranger sous le nom d’Anton Mobin. Ses activités sonores évoluent dans deux univers : la musique improvisée et l’art radiophonique. Il définit lui-même sa démarche dans la continuité de la musique concrète : son approche est orientée sur l'écoute des sons de la vie quotidienne et leur utilisation dans la composition radiophonique, vers une musique concrète “intensive”. Détournement et manipulation d’objets sonores, fragments anecdotiques et recomposition du réel sont autant de pistes explorées dans ses créations. Anton Mobin développe ses propres méthodes de composition auxquelles il expérimente de nombreuses contraintes de lieu, d’espace et de temps pour produire un art radiophonique unique et personnel. En 2007, Anton Mobin rejoint l’équipe de la webradio ARTE Radio pour laquelle il réalise des courtes créations sonores à contraintes sous l’égide de l’Ouvroir de Radiophonie Potentielle. En 2011, il compose sa première pièce pour Silence Radio, "Long Ride". Depuis 2001, avec DMC, AxDelbor, Ayato... Anton fait vivre le label de musique expérimentale H.A.K. Lo-Fi Record et administre depuis 2009 le projet d’improvisation en ligne “IMPRONET”. Aprés trois années à Radio Campus Orléans pour la réalisation de "Livestuff", une émission dédiée à la musique improvisée, Anton Mobin multiplie les rencontres avec de nombreux artistes internationaux lors de son émission à domicile “A Maïzing session with...” sur la webradio KKWNE. Anton Mobin is engaged in a real surgical operation. We assist in biopsy of an audiocassette and its box closest to the microphone. The cassette is put in naked, opened, tapeout. Manipulation with ten fingers, the magnetic tape is creased, stretched, cut andrubbed directly in the contact of the microphone.The plastic creaks, distort then splits... Sacrificed to micro-sound textures of intensities and colors...It is also question of objects diversion, using an audio support to produce sound by itself : here, cassettes are played without players and cassette players are not used to read tape !Traditional tape head becomes a decoder to transform information of any bank card ortransport tickets in sound.Mainly those recordings are used in a raw way and some were processed.

BERANGERE MAXIMIN (fr) : dispositif électro-acoustique

Dans son Home Sweet Home Studio à Paris, Bérangère Maximin fabrique des pièces sonores de divers genres et prépare ses lives électroniques, avant de les jouer sur les scènes variées d’Europe et des USA. Son premier album Tant Que Les Heures Passent sort sur le label de John Zorn, Tzadik, en septembre 2008. Entre 2009 et 2011, sa série de morceaux pour électronique et voix se développe sur la route. Elle partage l’affiche avec des personnalités fortes telles que Fennesz (Florence, Paris), James Blackshaw (St-Ouen), Zu (Vandoeuvre) ou Fred Frith (Brest, Oakland, San Francisco). Son second opus intitulé No One Is An Island paraîtra bientôt sur le label Sub Rosa, et regroupe ses collaborations avec Rhys Chatham, Christian Fennesz, Frédéric D. Oberland et Richard Pinhas.

COLIN JOHNCO (fr) : circuit analogique fermé

Musicien et designer sonore établit à Paris. En 2006, il fonde LEEP (Les Enregistrements de l'Europe Parisien) puis CJC records, deux net-labels indépendants axés sur la musique expérimentale, ambient et electronic music. Colin Johnco collabore dans différentes formations telles que FareWell Poetry, DR(DR)ONE ou encore Prison Food Sucks.

Bandrekorder ’59 is a cold war collective, born during the airraid of Doma in 1959. Among its members and contributors are psychologists, linguists and botanics. The research on sound includes communication between spores, electricity and language. The aim of the performance in sucked orange gallery is to visualize history with the use of archaic voices.

APPENDICKS (fr-usa)

Appendicks is an audiovisual performance that closely explores common objects. Essentially found in the street, these metal and plastic objects are placed in a wooden box that’s amplified by contact microphones.

Webcams and microscope cameras are then placed around this prepared chamber, and manipulated in realtime. The images are processed live using custom software, and in close conjunction with the audio performance.

Appendicks performs live, and their intuitive sets are influenced just as much by improvised music as by music concrète.

SoundFjord, Audio Gourmet's Harry Towell (Spheruleus) and Bartosz Dziadosz (Pleq) have come together to curate an album created "by the people, for the people", to raise funds for those that has beenaffected by the recent unrest that ravaged cities across the country.

The album, a statement and monument to collaboration and community, brings together works selected from short unedited recordings gleaned from artists, musicians and the general public across the globe.

Spheruleus and Pleq sensitively weave together an eclectic selection of field recordings, samples, spoken word pieces and instrumentation, creating momentous emotional landscapes for the listener, delicate, tender moments and most of all, a yearning tumult of haunting quietude: a silent, swaying breath.

All profits raised by sales of this album go towards assisting thosethat have lost their homes and livelihoods and to provideopportunities for philanthropy, creative expression and collaboration within local community projects.

"Nous ne savons pas exactement quelle heure est-il pour DMC, mais cet enregistrement sera, encore une fois un voyage temporel. L'aiguille est un vaisseau spatial, comme chacun sais, passant par une encyclopédie sonore, sautant pour faire ressortir une audacieuse chanson. Retour dans le sillon- Plier le temps- Arriver quelque part... DMC explore la face b du Monde, face parallèle, naturellement sombre et désespérée.
Fragments analogiques d'archives articulant des luttes perdus, recyclées, épuisées, digérées, et finalement oubliées afin d'être simplement tous contre tous. Ouais, la baise suit son chemin, le monde vit dans la viande, et nous sommes toujours là. Pendant le voyage, ponctué de beats gras, de scratchs déchirants, de bruits secs, nous rencontrons quelques amis venus mettre en relief les lumières aveugles. On va fêter ça : cela fera bientôt dix ans que cette porte est ouverte, au public, aux artistes, aux réalisateurs, aux curieux, aux amis, et si elle a claqué parfois, c’est que la vie associative est faite de différends autant que de promesses – le lieu, donc, aujourd’hui uniquement consacré à d’autres images de cinéma, aura poursuivi la tentative : faire vivre l’image à Orléans, autour d’une autre proposition que celle qui nous est offerte par le flux tendu des images qui nous entourent ; montrer des films travaillés par une exigence du regard et en prise sur le réel ; ouvrir un espace de parole autour du cinéma, avec ceux et celles qui le font.

The Sketchpad series is a monthly presentation of audio material that relates to content from previous episodes of Radius.

The programming is organized for the radio show Transmission Arts. The show features “artists at the forefront of the radio and sound art genres” (WGXC). The show includes an international and local roster of Distract & Disable, framework, Giant Ear))), Pirates Week, Radia, Radio Wonderland, The Shortwave Report, and Radius.

Sketchpad broadcasts on 90.7 fm every fourth Saturday from 12:00pm to ~4:00pm EST in Greene and Columbia counties, New York on WGXC: Hands On Radio.

A few months ago, the american hometapist HAL McGEE (master of homemade experimental electronic music since 1981 and pionner of the "cassette" movement) makes me an honour by asking for a collaboration together. I sent to him one hour of my own field recordings and one hour of live improvisation recorded at home. Hal mixed these two hours with his two hours of sounds, making this furious sound collage for your listening pleasure !

Xul c'est un grand melting pot de projets qui se carambolent au 108. Certains sont montrés pour la première fois, d'autres sont de passage dans le Loiret. De l'art plastique, du dessin, des performances, des concerts, de la vidéo, des projets en lignes...tous les médiums sont bons pour Xul. Il n'y a pas vraiment de ligne directrice, chacun apporte sa pierre a l'édifice, qu'elle soit fleur bleue ou hard core.

Radio Campus déplace ses studios à la maison bourgogne pour son émission mensuelle du dernier vendredi mois. Coup de chance pour Xul, ça tombe le même jour que lui. les artistes de Xul pourront donc expliquer leur travail, leur amour pour Xul, ou de toute autre chose.

Géraldine Aresteanu est une photographe orléanaise qui adore les humains. Le contact avec ses modèles, Le moment de la prise de vue est toujours un moment chaleureux, d'échange et de joie. Pour Xul, Géraldine a créé une série de portrait autour du "pull Xul", tricoté par Evelyne Coudert pour l'anniversaire de son fils. la touche glamour de Geraldine appliquée à Xul

Du grec phaneros, le cheveu est de la famille des phanères, toutes productions épidermiques apparentes (poils, ongles, écailles, plumes, dents, cornes…).
Ce matériau aux propriétés chimiques variées (imputrescible, extensible, malléable…) est un ingrédient organique des compositions et différents travaux de Petra von hair.
Petra Von Hair est une jeune plasticienne, elle vit et travaille à Tours depuis 2004.
Elle a rejoint l'organisation A.C.E. (Atelier de Création Expérimentale) en 2007 et y développe ses idées et ses ambitions créatrices.

À l'aide de leurs dispositifs évolutifs, et dans la continuité de leur pratique individuelle d'improvisateur, ils détournent, modifient, l’identité acoustique du lieu. Ce travail in-situ décalant notre perception du paysage sonore, induit une musique hors champs, hors temps, hors culture.

- Defrichage par le collectif couleur Vinaigre (dessins)

Il y a des années de cela un groupe d'artistes se prit a rêver de transformer les vinaigreries Dessaux en ateliers d'artistes. Voulant transposer leur rêve dans la réalité, ils créèrent une association qu'ils appelèrent "Couleur Vinaigre". Lors du Minixul, ils proposèrent une maquette de leur rêve. Dans le cabinet graphiques, il présentent leurs dessins sur le même rêve.

Ces deux jeunes filles travaillent depuis un an et demi sur une sorte de ping pong photo/dessin et présentent au public l'objet de nos correspondances sous forme de planches et dans une édition fraichement imprimée.

L'origine et la nature de leurs radiations électromagnétiques ne sont toujours pas élucidées...
Certains spécialistes avancent la possibilité d'une puissante collision dans un univers abandonné à l'intuition, où chaque son est un accident délibéré. L'anomalie résonne par glissements dans les méandres du Cosmos.
Ayato et Anton Mobin sont issus du collectif H.A.K.
Créé en 2001, H.A.K est un collectif à géométrie variable s'interrogeant sur les différentes manières de pratiquer le son.

C'est la suite de Patataclou présentée au minixul qui recyclait les clous de la fusée de Xul. Ici le recyclage de morceaux d'œuvres d'art se concentre sur les pièces exposées au BOL puis abandonnées dans l'atelier mitoyen: La plaque de bois de l'exposition "Escapologique" de Olivier Morvan, les couverts de l'exposition des "faire Ailleurs", la structure-palette du "Bowl", les roulettes du "mortier"

 _Buckminsterito Matthieu Mas (sculpture)

Toujours tiraillé entre la cuisine et l'atelier d'archi, Matthieu Mas voit les choses en plus grand et nourrit les xuliens  sous sa coupole géodésique

_Société Standardisée par Benjah (installation sonore)

Le réveil matin rythme artificiellement nos vies. Cette machine nous commande pour que nous puissions être opérationnels au même moment et ainsi faire tourner la machine. Benjah dompte et détourne cet objet maléfique.

_Ritournelles par Charlotte Gaillet et Ivan Jimenez (video)

Fusion deux deux projets présentés au Minixul. Le travail sur le concept de "permanence de l'objet" développé dans le roman photo exposé par Charlotte et la danse a tendance sérielle proposée au Bol au milieu des œuvres présentées a Minixul par Ivan. La ritournelle est attachée a la fois au monde de l'enfance et par sa répétition à celui de la transe.

 _Distributeur de graines surprises par Yannis Bellair (dispositif)

Une graine enrobée dans une délicieuse enveloppe d'argile. La graine, c'est une surprise: Fleur, légume, futur arbre, mauvaise herbe....et l'enveloppe d'argile, ça permet de la lancer et ça lui donne un premier espace pour développer ses racines avant de se planter définitivement dans la terre et fixer une bonne fois pour toutes le CO2 qui nous veut du mal.

kevineurone, un des piliers de Xul, après s'être frotté aux "cultes" à xul lors des editions 1 et 2 du festival remet le couvert et vernit pour l'edition4 la version 2 du Bureau d'investigation. Il y apporte en plus de sa musique une touche de monochromie lumineuse.

Le wikipedia de la conspiration. Des thèses non officielles, les liens économiques souterrains. Un bureau dans une pièce cachée protégee par un code. un bunker sous les toits. Un renard de garde et une carabine à plomb le protègent.

LIBERATOR est une prise de position, et le changement du point d’optique terrifie parfois le regard.
Les idées sont des idées quand elles sont diffusées, discutées, approuvées, attaquées et contestées. Pour cela il fallait trouver des espaces - les concerts ne sont qu’un moyen et les salles pas toujours accessibles - la place publique devient une nécessité.
Or on a chassé le peuple des rues et des places : ce sont des lieux où l’on ne peut plus converser et discuter à loisir, où le sentiment public ne peut plus se former. Nous avons fini par devenir louche d’être assis sur un banc, à surveiller ce qui se passe sur les places, à nous surveiller.

Mister TRICASTIN est un esthète, il a chez lui toute la collection des VHS de John Marie Béjart, grand chorégraphe international financièrement basé en Suisse.
Mister TRICASTIN s'y connaît en danse, il est prêt à retourner sa veste à la première occasion ou porter un sac de riz avec grâce.
Mister TRICASTIN est de droite est de gauche mais c'est ringard tous ces clivages, lui il est moderne.
Mister TRICASTIN est prêt à marcher sur la tête des burlesques de tout poil et des transformistes vulgaires.
Mister TRICASTIN est prêt à vous chanter la fin du monde en tortillant du cul sous les sunlights de la plus national des scènes Heil!
Mistre TRICASTIN aime les sourires bébêtes bien hypocrites avec une plume dans la fraternité, allons mes enfants.

_La sorcière et la mort par Jean Louis Costes (performance)

Jean-Louis Costes est un performer français bien connu pour l'intensité hors-norme de ses spectacles, des mini-opéras qui mêlent actions, chansons et bruitisme. Il en a créé 20 depuis 1988, qu'il a présentés en Europe, aux Etats-Unis et au Japon.
Les performances de Costes traitent autant de sujets de société que de l'intimité de l'individu. Il les interprète dans une transe convulsive qui fait penser à la fois à Artaud et au Vaudou. Par le cri et l'outrance, il tente de conjurer tous les démons du monde moderne.
Voir une de ses performances est une expérience intense, tant la forme nous étonne, l'énergie nous emporte, et le fond nous touche au plus profond.

Pretty Clicks est né en 2011 de la rencontre d’une française issue de la musique concrète (Denis Dufour, Motus) et d’un américain sorti tout droit des scènes no-wave et hardcore (Meta-Matics). Depuis leurs écrans et autres engins électroniques, le duo expérimente et joue avec une multitude de sons : une masse sur laquelle s’appuyer, grave et sourde, mise en opposition à des bruits entremêlés dont la source et la destination se perdent. Les oreilles suivent ces chemins, s’entrechoquent, approchent la folie avant d’être rattrapées par la stabilité des basses.
« L’équilibre entre énergie, étonnement et émotion ».

Chuck Bettis est un multiinstrumentiste autodidacte,avec une préférence pour le live electronics et l’usage de la gorge. Il grandit sur le sol musical fertile de Washington, patrie du mouvement HarDCore (Meta-matics, All Scars), rejoint les énigmatiques rassemblements d'avant-garde de Baltimore, avant de s’épanouir dans la tribu musicale du Downtown New York. Depuis son arrivée dans la cité en 2002, il a joué avec John Zorn, Fred Frith, Jamie Saft, et Afrirampo, et a enregistré avec Ikue Mori, Nautical Almanac, Audrey Chen, Yellow Swans, Toshio Kajiwara, Mick Barr, pour n'en citer que quelques-uns.
En plus du duo Pretty Clicks, Chuck a fondé Brown Wing Overdrive avec Derek Morton (album sur Tzadik ‘ESP Organism’, 2008 ; dernier album "L Phantasm" Kavekavity, 2010), et s’investit actuellement dans plusieurs groupes
dont Mudang Rouge (avec J. Lim, E. Rapport, J. Blair), Period (avec M. Pride, C. Looker, D. Jones) , Hell Hoarse (avec B. Murray) et Chatterblip (avec D. Nephtali). Parallèlement trés impliqué comme volontaire dans de nombreuses manifestations culturelles à New York, il enregistre et compose régulièrement avec divers ensembles de musiciens de partout dans le monde.

Dans son Home Sweet Home Studio à Paris, Bérangère Maximin fabrique des pièces sonores de divers genres et prépare ses lives électroniques, avant de les jouer sur les scènes variées d’Europe et des USA. Son premier album Tant Que Les Heures Passent sort sur le label de John Zorn, Tzadik, en septembre 2008. Entre 2009 et 2010, sa première série de morceaux pour électronique et voix nommée Stuck In a Nasty Little Film se développe sur la route. Lors d’une trentaine de concerts aux USA, en France et en Italie, elle partage l’affiche avec des personnalités fortes telles que Christian Fennesz (Florence, Paris), James Blackshaw (St-Ouen), ZU (Vandoeuvre) ou Fred Frith (Brest, Oakland, San Francisco). Lauréate de la bourse CulturesFrance/Institut Français Hors Les Murs 2011, elle effectue un séjour de deux mois aux USA, en février et mars, pour l’écriture d'une nouvelle oeuvre Dora-Rose Hits New York pour trois récitants et électronique live (future mise en scène de Lionel Parlier).
Elle fait une tournée de douze concerts dans le pays (NYC, Philly, Washington DC, San Francisco, Oakland). Son second opus intitulé No One Is An Island est paru à la rentrée sur le label Sub Rosa, et regroupe ses collaborations avec Rhys Chatham, Christian Fennesz, Frédéric D. Oberland et Richard Pinhas.

Created in 2001, H.A.K. is a variable-geometry collective which combines more than 80 artists around the world. H.A.K. LO-FI RECORD is a label of independent music, as well as a group of sound researches wondering about the sound spaces, in term of urbanity or plastic installations, and on various ways to practice Sound nowadays.
In 2011, for our 10 years of activity, 220 productions mark out the route of H.A.K. LO-FI RECORD : CD-r, CD, vinyl, book, DVD

What does it means H.A.K. ?

Unofficially the cover of one of our first project (which is not included in the regular H.A.K. collection) showed the following title: "Human Assistance Krew".
Officially these three letters doesn't mean anything at all! Nothing serious nevertheless! For H.A.K. many things - as records titles, compilations projects or events names - come from a good joke. Nothing is serious but we do it seriously!
But the truth is that this question is a steady one. These three letters does intrigue and everybody would like to know their signification, their symbolism. To this question we collectively decide once and for all to answer NOTHING.

These three letters sound pretty good together, in the end! Nevertheless the most important term in our name appears to be “Lo-Fi”. Today everybody knows that word, everybody wants to be “Lo-Fi”, it's a hype!
But 10 years ago, our will was to associate the word with a practice - at the same time amateur, self-confident, bringing together what is at hand and D.I.Y. - as much as for the production than for the hand-made realization of our records.

When it started ? Where ?

We are in Le Havre at the beginning of the 00's. Benoît Hixe create X-Prod which publishes, at a hand-made micro-edition format, the sound productions he realizes while at the Beaux-Arts (a French institutional Art school) in Le Havre.
In October 2001, AxDelbor and Benoît Hixe leave the Beaux-Arts. AxDelbor stays in Le Havre, while Benoît Hixe goes to Lyon. Yet they decide to unite their forces and ideas to create a collective project, which becomes the H.A.K. Lo-Fi Record entity. A label and an alternative movement are born.

H.A.K.'s first projects are shaped as open to everyone audio compilations and sound installations. Ten years later, H.A.K. is now a company of artists, whose active members live in miscellaneous cities in France (Paris, Orleans, Lyon, Dunkirk, Bourges, Tours, Saint-Etienne) and abroad (Brussels, Berlin, Netherlands, Spain, USA, Canada…). Furthermore, H.A.K. set up two associations in France to manage its activities. One is in Lyon, kept by Ax Delbor and Dead Beat, the other is in Orleans managed by Ayato, Anton Mobin and Extrasystole.

History of H.A.K. Important information related

Since the very beginning, H.A.K. got itself organized as a secret organization, a shadow company, a group which move around as a submarine under the known surface of the underground. In other words, H.A.K. develops by itself and for itself in a complete self-sufficient system. Shadow company, web collective: a first version of a web site had been made thanks to AxDelbor, which includes all the activities of H.A.K. Lo-Fi Record - audio projects, compilations, call for projects, sound installations, videos, instruments making… Now, our official web site is two blogs and an on-line collection at Archive.org.

H.A.K. first values are exchange and meeting. Improvisation becomes a way of thinking on the verge of a way of life. Where every meeting is a pretext to play, record and produce a record in quite a short time.
The improv series “Documents”, “Skull”, “Crash” and “Instantané” are nothing but expressions of this way of thinking.
Each series engages the artist into strict constraints of production: “Documents” are “lounge” improvisations - no editing nor treatment are allowed. “Skull” are live recorded studio improvisations, for which editing is allowed.
After ten volumes in this series, we went to the “Crash” one, which goes with the same constraints than “Skull”. Ten “Crash” volumes later H.A.K. opens the “Instantané” series, still a topical one, which offers new encounters and the arrival of new artists. Besides, it is important to state that coming from the graphic arts, visual identity is a significant characteristic of H.A.K. Each of these improv series have its appointed artwork artist, which creates a graphic unit: “Documents” are by Benoît Hixe, “Skull” by Darby Mullins, “Crash” by Carlos Groënland and “Instantané” by AxDelbor.

Self-sufficiency is therefore the best way to define the company's first years, which in no way detracts from the will to do, produce and always going ahead with more and more ambitious projects. In this way, a commitment highlight the H.A.K.'s approach: if you want to do something do it, don't ask for nothing and don't expect anything in return. So that in ten years of activity and after the production of 220 records, DVD and books, H.A.K. didn't perceived any subvention from any cultural institution. The engaged expenses come from after-shows records sales and the money often comes from our very pockets. Here again we talk about meeting and not affiliation. That's the way things are, but they could as well be different…

The collective grew fast, and around its 5th anniversary it gathered more than 80 international artists, who had joined at least one project from the company. Encounter follows encounter and each is a new one.
There's a wide range of affiliations and aesthetics, and the scope of possible seems to be infinite: H.A.K. gather together sound artists as well as musicians, visual artists, video-makers, illustrators, cartoonists, dancers, journalists, poets…

A meeting inspires the other, so that an organization chart in a rogues' gallery style would be a kind of manifest able to depict these gears of connections. The Map designed by Isabelle Pichat is a contribution to this end.

Realized in 2008 by Isabelle Pichat to reprensent all the extensions and the ways taken by the collective.
All the names of the collective H.A.K are mentioned.

In order to swell its ranks and to gain some notoriety, H.A.K. got involved into the organization of sound events. The first evenings took place in Orleans with a variable-geometry game called “Grand foutoir” ("Big mess"). During these evenings managed by a referee, meeting and sharing were the rule. Up to 20 artists could be on stage, ready to act. The referee threw two dices: the first to set the number of musicians involved in the improvisation (from 1 to 6 artists), the second to set the duration of the improvisation (from 1 to 6 minutes), and so on… “Easy Band” is a more elaborate form of this project, which had been developed in residence then on stage on 4 occasions in Lyon and Chartres in France.

It is to be noted that to become a member of H.A.K. Lo-Fi Record there is no more membership nor membership card, than financial relation or interest between the artist and the company. Following this idea of exchange and mutual trust, every artist who produced a record on H.A.K. and all those who wish to make it in the future, act in accordance with the principle of donation. No contract managed the production, although there have been several attempts but in vain.

Shadow company, web collective, H.A.K. contributes to the Copyleft movement since the beginning, offering on its first site's version numerous free downloadable sound excerpts, without knowing that the free music movement was rising at the same period under the aegis of the Creative Commons and other Art Libre free licences. It's quite funny to notice that after ten years of activities. Late indeed, but in line with its ethics, H.A.K. offered around 2007 to all artists having a record in the collection the opportunity to register their work under Creative Commons on the online library Archive.org.

For 5 years H.A.K. tries to open up and to develop links with other structures involved with similar interests, with the will of getting out of autarky. Sharing more, thinking bigger, looking farther, meeting international artists, connecting labels, as much as participate to projects proceeding from others, as call to projects from other labels or companies and participation to events organized by external structures.

Can you mention another propositive projects (labels, organizers, collectives) in the venue of experimental, noise and improvised music working in your country? ( it doesn´t matter if they don´t exist anymore )

This is a tricky question to which we decide not to answer explicitly in full. We don't have any commercial approach for sale, search or contract. Though, on our pathway the places, artists and labels below allow us to obtain a support, an assistance, a backup, or offered us a motivation or a solution for the organization of one or several projects, and we give them our faithful consideration.

Anton Mobin is Anthony Baron. He was introduced in H.A.K. Lo-Fi Record with Ayato in 2003, with a featuring as bassist on the album “Legal vs illegal” (hak20).
Early, Anton Mobin releases all his productions on the label H.A.K. and gets involved into the organization of the evenings " Grand Foutoir " at Orléans with Ayato and more recently at NK (Berlin) with Denis Mac Carty. At present, his ambition with H.A.K. is to open the label to more international artists and to amplify the connections.

His musical interests are the improvisation and the intuitive music through objects manipulation and home made instruments. Also, he gets involved in radiophonic creation and sound art as an independant radio producer for the ARTE Radio.com and produces his own broadcast “A Maïzing session with...” on the webradio KKWNE. He organises in Paris a serie of events called “Trapped Noise” dedicated to improvised and noise music. Also “Tales For Tapes” a serie of live events dedicated to tape manipulation, co-curated with Rinus van Alebeek in Paris, Berlin and Brussels.

Born in 1979, Anthony Baron lives in Paris and works where the improvisation and the sound creation is going full swing in the world. It is under the name of Anton Mobin that he produces his radio creations and that he occurs on stage. Anton Mobin's sound activities evolve in two universes: the improvised music and the radio art. Sound artist and radio producer, the sound recording and the sound effects are the essential elements of his work of composition. He defines himself his initiative in the continuity of the concrete music: his approach is directed on the listening of the sounds of the everyday life and their use in the radio composition, to develop an "extensive" concrete music.

Diversion and manipulation of sound objects, trivial fragments and reorganization of the reality are so many ways investigated in his creations. Anton Mobin develops his own methods of composition in which he experiments different constraints of place, time and also technical to produce a unique and personal radio art. The work of sound creation and Anton Mobin's improvisation have been physically edited or on-line published by 36 labels in 14 countries worldwide. His work has been played on different radio shows and sound festivals in France, Norway, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and the United States.

"Radio Buddha is delivered in four ‘scenes’ drifting between radio waves, silence, drone, and static pulses. The album’s creation resembles ideas similar to John Cage’s 1959 work ‘Indeterminacy’ with the improvisers performing in different rooms unable to hear each others sounds (Radio Buddha’s sounds imagine David Tudor was playing both parts of Cage’s piece). Often you are left with areas of meditative drones and flickering static to later be buried in avalanches of rhythm and speech collected from all over the radio dial."

His performance sometimes consists of contact mics and amplified trash, his DJ-sets usually mix three vinyls together (one played normal speed, one double/half speed, one backwards), his artwork is himself. In the last few years he’s opened for the likes of Sunn O))), Black Dice, Faust, Felix Kubin, Zs, Fennesz, Earth, Silver Apples and many more. His Dadaist approach to the concept of music and its general meaning and perception and most of all the implementation of it, makes some people leave the venue within 3 minutes but others remain baffled and drawn into the various timespeeds and curios of KRAPOOLA.

In between these extremes the connaisseur of contemporary and not so contemporary music can recognize influences of Pergolesi, Bach, Antheil and Mobin/van Alebeek at a sometimes incredible speed.

Tales for Tapes is a series of live concerts dedicated to tape manipulation, initiated by Anton Mobin in Paris.

#7 in the series was held on Friday 14th January 2011 in the Traffic Art Gallery in Brussels. The artists, in order of appearance, who played that evening were Final Cut, TG, Dawamesk & Handjob, Blenno und die Wurst-Brücke, Tzii and She was Beautiful.

The concerts were recorded on a Sony Walkman and a Yamaha Fourtrack by Flavien Gillé ( • ) and me, Rinus van Alebeek (+) . Each one of us used four C40 chrome cassettes. We continously changed the cassettes during the recording process. Sound check, audience talk and concerts appear in a cut up structure.

Since Flaviens set up (with two microphones) was static, he couldn’t record TG and Blenno who played in an other room. I (Rinus) could walk around.

Tales for Tapes #7 is released in an edition of seven copies. Each copy holds a unique version of the evening. Each cassette has in addition a unique remix in which the other six tapes were used. The remixes were done by me, using a marantz cassette player, a yamaha fourtrack and a tascam fourtrack.

Tales for Tapes #7 comes in a black/transparent library box, The cassette is C40 white chrome. Side a has a strip of paper with Tales for Tapes #7 . Side b shows the name of the mix.

The cover is the original flyer of the evening, from an original linoleum print by dawamesk and hand job. The inlay is a piece of paper with more or less the same info that you find on this page.

Face A "Rive droite"
Project for Staaltape label

The cassette arrived blank from Berlin on April 24th, 2011 thanks to Steeve Bauras.

Rinus van Alebeek liked that the cassette doesn’t travel by post service ; we needed an intermediary of choice, it was my friend Steeve who done a photo exhibition with Nox Factio to Limbus Europae (Berlin) the previous week.

The transmission between Steeve and me was made at La Miroiterie, during a massive graffiti session with FMR, 3615, Gorellaume, Darkside, Yank, Sword, Yeroglyph, Captain Bière Ivre and Iskander !
La Miroiterie is on "Rive droite” of Paris, I take advantage of this day to make a series of sound recordings of atmosphere, nearness and contact microphones which will serve me for my composition.

The cassette will stay in her box and the project on standby during almost two weeks. None of the artists whom I had selected for the face A were available before May 16th, 2011; date in which we begin.

I wanted that the cassette can be begun with :such: I appreciate enormously the work and the approach of Marc Parazon and since its remarkable and noticed live act during “Estafette Rue Cassette”, his implication was not to demonstrate any more. :such: create a subtle and massive ambient by means of two tape players prepared by AxDelbor, the founder of the label H.A.K. Lo-Fi Record, in whom I work for soon ten years.

For the next run, I invite to participate an artist that I did not know personally, but about which I had heard a lot. Fusiller. We have common friends, and especially I know his activity and his famous label Tanzprocesz which publishes various productions on cassette with always very smart design. With Fusiller, we speak here of noise with a big N...  Regrettably I miss the meeting between :such: and Fusiller. So, I realize a fake photo to remember there !

The third participants are friends Andres Ramirez and Elise Vanderwalle of the duet Nox Factio, renamed recently NX F. Their almighty performance in Chiquito during the evening Tales for Tapes #4 binds to us henceforth firmly and very friendly. An apéritif is organized to Fusiller’ sweet home where I am invited. Very relax atmosphere, beers and good music, the transmission of the cassette is made in a feminine way !

For the continuation, I invite a "radio" artist whose I estimate her work enormously, to compose a piece for Paris Tape Run. DinahBird accepts directly what delights me a lot. It is always delicate to ask for a "free" participation from recognized artists, but once again the project is very well welcomed by Dinah and the others. Dinah knows very well Harold Schellinx and Emmanuel Rébus, artist pioneer on cassette culture and have already met Rinus during events to the project 101... The transmission between NX F and DianhBird is made to the School of Beaux -Arts of Paris during the evening "Heavy Tactical Transmissions". A quite indicated choice !

Here is my run ! Dinah makes an appointment with me on a sunny terrace in the 18th district of Paris. A photo in Chinese shadow seals the transmission. My piece is ready to be copied to the cassette, because I work on it since April 24th. My cassette players are intended for live manipulation and by concerns of a quality recording, I ask Andres Ramirez for the possibility of copying my piece with his equipment. That’s done !!

Certainly with a delay regarding to the date beforehand fixed, the face A "Rive droite" is completed hence forth on July 2nd, 2011, passing from the ambient to the power electronic, from dark noise to the radio creation, towards the concrete music !

Born in 1979, Anthony Baron lives in Paris and works where the improvisation and the sound creation is going full swing in the world.
It is under the name of Anton Mobin that he produces his radio creations and that he occurs on stage. Anton Mobin's sound activities evolve in two universes: the improvised music and the radio art.

Sound artist and radio producer, the sound recording and the sound effects are the essential elements of his work of composition.

He defines himself his initiative in the continuity of the concrete music: his approach is directed on the listening of the sounds of the everyday life and their use in the radio composition, to develop an "extensive" concrete music.
